The Exilis uses a combination of radiofrequency energy (3.4Mhz up to 120 Watts), and skin cooling to deliver controlled heating to target deep tissue, addressing deeper wrinkles, sagging skin and jowls, as well as the superficial skin layer, treating finer lines.
The device comes with a handpiece to treat the body and a smaller one for treating the face. This is kept in almost constant motion as it treats. The tip of the applicator on the end of the handpiece uses focused thermal (heat) energy to disrupt the collagen fibres deep within the skin.
The aim of treatment is to raise the temperature at the skin surface to 40-42°C for 4 or 5 minutes in each area treated to achieve the collagen tightening. This will be felt as a warming sensation by the patient. It is the only system worldwide with simultaneous warming, cooling and heat conductivity control.
This intricate temperature control drives energy into the cells and triggers the release of growth factors and platelets with subsequent activation of fibroblasts which in turn produce elastin and collagen. This translates into skin tightening.
At the same time the raise in local temperature increases the blood flow to and from the area under treatment resulting in greater oxygen supply, boosting the catabolism locally and accelerating the biologic process of fat cell death(apoptosis).
Exilis effects are obvious after only the first treatment however the final outcome may require further sessions depending on the baseline skin condition. Importantly the effect of Exilis is dynamic and ongoing resulting in progressive improvement of the final look even 3 months after the final session.
